Language courses

Lucy Crisfield

Each lesson is an exploration of our world—a world that is emerged through words, thoughts and imaginations.

Some words bring us closer to reality,
some take us farther away.

Sanskrit—the language of yoga—reveals our hidden assumptions,
perceptions, and limitations.

And in so doing, we discover the music of our soul,
and the movement of our deepest reality.

The lessons: an enquiry of the soul

  • Each lesson is an exploration of our world through sound, structure, the formless and form.
  • We move slowly, savouring each moment, rather than sprinting towards a perceived goal.
  • The lessons begin with a meditation – sounding the structure of the language through the paradigms that were taught to me by Dr Sastry, a 40th generation Sanskrit teacher from a Sanskrit speaking village.
  • The iGCSE syllabus is supplemented by my own grammar book – a book that brings to light the deeper cosmological vision within Sanskrit (as expressed through ‘the eight meditations’ – perhaps the greatest ‘grammatical’ masterpiece ever to have been composed).
  • Much of the homework is written by me – to help embody the richness of the Sanskrit cosmology – and in direct response to the specific needs of the group before me.
  • Homework is individually marked by me to help consolidate and personalise the embodiment process.

 How to join us:

  • join the waiting list for the next ‘Learn to Read Sanskrit’ course
  • Or, access the recording of the last course

krsna 1 : the entry point into the Sanskrit cosmology after learning to write the Sanskrit script

  • Learn the 24 words for rāma
  • Practice and deepen your fluency in reading the devanāgarī script
  • Touch on the deeper philosophical significance within the structure of a Sanskrit word, and a Sanskrit sentence.
  • Begin to sense how the language we speak shapes the lens through which see reality.

For those who already have some Sanskrit knowledge:

  • Perhaps you moved quickly through an academic syllabus, but your knowledge feels surface level.
  • Perhaps you always had an intuition that there was more.
  • Perhaps you are now ready to embody Sanskrit as the music of your blood and bones.

Then, perhaps one of the following is for you:

  • 12 x 2 hour interactive classes a year
  • 2 x early morning sounding meditations
  • 4 x early morning classes oriented specifically around the ‘eight meditations’
  • 61-page supporting grammar book written by me
  • Homework individually marked and often written in response to the class before me.
